Division Governor’s Message
Wednesday, July 1st, 2009It is indeed a privilege and an honour for me to serve Division D as Governor for the term 2009-10. When I began my toastmasters journey in 2006, little did I anticipate or dream that I would one day serve as an officer of an Area or a Division. Initially, I set out to improve and refine my communication skills and in the process I became impassioned by it. Along the way, I realized that toastmasters is a holistic approach towards the development of the whole person as it encompasses personal and interpersonal skills – from communications skills to leadership skills to relationship building skills. In short it is a 3-in-1 approach!
Every year, the toastmasters journey renews with change and stabilizes with continuity – leadership, vision and creativity change but at the same time the core values of our mission and goals remain. The vision this year is “Renew Your Promise’ – the pledge we make when we sign up as a member of Toastmasters International. The promise in a nutshell is to be a pro-active and committed member of our club (s). Once we renew our promise, the core values and goals will fall into place.
Our core values provide the platform and “inspire every member to be a communicator and leader”. As we perform our roles as communicators and leaders, we are in fact working towards achieving the toastmasters’ educational and leadership goals. These goals are translated into the Distinguished Club Programme or DCP. Working towards these educational and leadership goals bring toastmasters together to work as a team, as a family and as a united whole. Only the members can make this come true. And Division D has always taken pride in our motto of “Make Members Matter”.
The targets set by Toastmasters International are intended to renew, refurbish and re-energise the clubs, areas, divisions and districts. My objective is to “empower every club to achieve distinguished status” – be it distinguished, select or president – based on their resources.
Let’s make this journey an alliterative one –
FANtastic – Inspire Every Member to be a Communicator and Leader
FUNtastic – Make Members Matter
FRUITastic – Empower Every Club to Achieve Distinguished Status
Yours in “toastmastership”

Quek Geok Cheng, DTM
